At North York General Hospital, we are dedicated to providing new mothers and their families with outstanding and responsive care.
The hospital’s obstetrical centre is one of the largest single site centres in Ontario and each year we celebrate the birth of over 5,800 babies.
The Maternal Newborn Program provides care throughout your pregnancy from prenatal screening through labour and birth, to the postpartum experience.
We work in collaboration with you and your family in all the decisions concerning your care. Our primary goal at North York General Hospital is to provide patient- and family-centered care.
Our Prenatal Assessment Services, Volunteer Services Birthing Centre, Mother and Baby Unit, and the Tippet Foundation Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are conveniently integrated together on the second floor of the General site.
The Maternal and Newborn Program’s health care team ensures the complex physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients are met.
The Maternity Newborn health care team includes:
- Family Doctors
- Registered Nurses (RN)
- Registered Practical Nurses (RPN)
- Social Workers
- Lactation Consultants
- Team Attendants
- Respiratory Therapists
As a community academic hospital, we collaboratively train physicians, midwives, nurses, and other health care practitioners. Students and residents experience first hand how the delivery of high quality obstetrical care impacts new families.
