North York General Hospital's Accredited Dietetic Internship Program provides students with comprehensive hands-on experience, both as members of the health care team and in food service administration.
The minimum requirement for becoming a Registered Dietitian is the completion of a four-year accredited undergraduate university program in foods and nutrition (or equivalent) as well as an accredited internship minimum of 35 weeks (or equivalent practical training). Following this education, a dietitian has also passed an exam assessing his/her competence to practice in Canada.
Interns develop skills and knowledge in Clinical Nutrition and Food Service Management, and also have learning opportunities in nutrition counseling and education in community settings. Four positions are available for the 44-week internship program that begins inearly October.
