Our community teaching hospital has always adopted an academic focus and we are dedicated to educating future family physicians.
The Family and Community Medicine Program's Family Practice Teaching Unit is based on the 4th floor of the General Site (4001 Leslie St.).
The Family Practice Teaching Unit has been expanded so we can teach medical students and residents to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
The health-care team includes family physicians, residents, nurse, dietitian and social worker. The team members are brought together to co-ordinate the best care for patients.
Residents work alongside staff family physicians, gaining experience in family practice team care and support.
The unit is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with extended evening hours on Wednesdays from 5 - 8 p.m. Patients and their families are seen in the unit by one of the family physicians, similar to an outside family practice office in the community.
