Amenities and Services — General site

The General site at North York General Hospital (4001 Leslie Street) offers a wide variety of services and amenities to meet the needs of patients, their families and visitors. All patients requiring overnight stays are at the General site (4001 Leslie St.)
 
An ATM (automated teller machine) can be found in the Torokvei Atrium (lobby) on the ground floor. It is located on the back wall near the telephones.
 
Location: Ground floor (opposite Gift Shop), General site
Hours: Open 24 hours

All are welcome to use the Louise Kirby Multifaith Chapel; to assist with worship and prayer times, there are sacred books and other religious items. Please feel free to use these items as you need. Sunday Christian worship takes place at 10 a.m. Special services are held for major Jewish and Christian holidays. Other services may be requested.

Information desks
North York General Hospital volunteers staff two information desks at the General site. They will be happy to answer your questions and direct you.

Ground floor, Torokvei Atrium (lobby)
Hours: Monday to Friday: 8 a.m.to 7 p.m.
Weekends and statutory holidays: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

First floor, west lobby
Hours: Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Weekends and statutory holidays: closed

General site Emergency Department (Charlotte & Lewis Steinberg Emergency)
Hours: Monday to Friday: 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m.
Weekends and statutory holidays: closed
 
Inpatients or visitors who lose an item on an inpatient floor, should ask their nurse if the item has been turned in. You can also contactSecurity to see if the item has been turned in. If you find an item, please give it to your nurse or give it to volunteers at the Information Desk located in the General site's Torokvei Atrium (ground floor lobby).

Newspapers and magazines
Newspaper boxes are located outside the General site, near the ground floor main entrance.
Visit the Gift Shop on the ground floor for a selection of magazines.
Complimentary newspaper/magazine stands can be found on the ground floor near the Pharmacy.

Bedside telephones
Bedside telephonesare available ininpatient rooms. Each room has its own extension number and patients are encouraged to give out this extension to family and friends.

To reach a patient:
Dial the main hospital line at 416-756-6000
Follow the instructions and enter in the extension
When you call our General site at 416-756-6000, you can access our voice recognition system by pressing 2 to reach a patient. Follow the instructions — you will be asked to say the name of the person you are trying to reach and you will be automatically transferred to them. If you prefer, follow the instructions tobe transferredto anoperator.

You may obtain a patient's room or phone number from a volunteer at the General site's Information Desks on the main floor (every day, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) or on the 1rst floor (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on weekends and holidays).If you do not know the extension, please wait for an operator to come on the line and redirect you

To make a call from a patient phone:
  • Dial “9”
  • Dial then dial the 10 digit number you are trying to reach
  • Long distance calls must be made through the operator and must be either collect (charged to another number) or credit card. For assistance, press “0”

Courtesy phones are available for calls within North York General Hospital and they are located:

First floor, west entrance lobby

To reach someone within the hospital:

  • Dial the extension of the person you wish to speak
  • If you do not know the extension, ask the volunteer at the information desk for assistance
  • To reach someone at the BransonAmbulatory Care Centre,dial “15” before the extension
