Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass receives APOG Carl Nimrod Award

Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass, Obstetrician/Gynecologist at North York General Hospital, has been selected by the University of Toronto to receive the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Canada (APOG) Carl Nimrod Award. This award recognizes Dr. Tunde-Byass for her excellence, commitment, innovation and leadership in teaching the next generation of practitioners and her exceptional work and dedication to the betterment of obstetrics and gynaecology education. Dr. David Eisen named Department of Family and Community Medicine Chief

Dr. Donna McRitchie, Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs, has announced the appointment of Dr. David Eisen as Chief of Family & Community Medicine effective July 1, 2014. Dr. Eisen has been a leader in family medicine and family medicine obstetrics both clinically and academically for the last 22 years. He has been on staff at North York General Hospital since completing his residency in 1992. He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and the York Faculty of Business MBA Program in 1987. Dr. Eisen is a 1990 graduate of the MD program at McMaster University. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. Recently, he has served NYGH as Chair of Family Medicine Obstetrics. He was previously Deputy Chief of the department and currently has been serving as Interim Chief of the Department of Family & Community Medicine.

Dr. David White has accepted the position of inaugural Deputy Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto, effective June 1, 2014. He has been a University of Toronto faculty member since 1977, and has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor, effective July 1, 2014. Learn more about Dr. White.

First large electronic study to track chronic diseases across Canada

Canadian researchers are the first to use electronic medical records of family physicians to track the prevalence and patterns of care for diabetes across Canada. The findings open the door for future mass-scale exploration of chronic diseases using information technology. The study, published in the Canadian Journal of Diabetes, began in 2008 when a handful of family physicians pooled their patients' electronic medical records – careful to remove all patient identifiers to fully protect privacy – to determine patterns in diabetes within the community. Several of these physicians were affiliated with North York General Hospital. Learn more about this study.

New OHA Green Hospital Scorecard program — NYGH awarded Bronze
February 19, 2014 

The Green Hospital Scorecard is a new benchmarking and recognition program which aims to reflect hospitals' environmental performance as indicated by their operations, management and policies. For 2013, based on 2012 data, 24 hospitals were awarded Silver and 47 hospitals were awarded Bronze. No hospital has yet achieved the Gold standard.
