Newly expanded outpatient clinic meets growing community needs

Toronto, September 23, 2014 – North York General Hospital (NYGH) has consolidated several of their outpatient clinics into a new space to better serve patients and families in its busy and growing community.

The newly named Baruch/Weisz Outpatient Care Clinic helps the hospital decrease wait times and improve access to care by reducing the need to admit patients from the Charlotte & Lewis Steinberg Emergency. It also lets patients well enough in our medicine units go home earlier because they are seen for follow-up care in the clinic. All of these discharged patients are seen within a target of 48 hours.

“The Baruch/Weisz Outpatient Care Clinic is part of our strategy to provide patients with the right care, at the right time, in the right place,” says Tim Rutledge, President and CEO, North York General Hospital. “Designed to give patients privacy, comfort and improved access to services, the clinic provides patients with an overall better experience.”

Expansion of the former medical/surgical outpatient clinic was identified as a priority need in January 2014 because the volume of patients referred to the clinic increased significantly. Through a generous donation from the Baruch and Weisz families, timely completion of this unique patient care clinic was possible.

“North York General has been caring for my family and I for over 40 years. For myself, and for my business partners and friends Eddie and Steven Weisz, it was an easy decision to give back to a hospital that provides such exceptional care to thousands of people in my community,” says Ron Baruch, Chair of the Foundation Board of Governors. “We wanted to invest in a way that would have immediate and long lasting benefits for patients. The newly expanded and renovated clinic does just that and much more.”

Opened for patients this past June, the renovated ground floor clinic features state-of-the-art equipment and a warm environment to help put patients at ease.

Seven outpatient care clinics are now located together in one modern setting, including: Medical Surgical Clinic, Acute Care Surgery Clinic, Wound Care Clinic, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Clinic, Geriatric Clinic, Stroke Prevention, Day Medicine and patients requiring follow-up after being discharged from the emergency department.

North York General Hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals. We offer our culturally diverse community a wide range of acute care, ambulatory and long-term care services across three sites.
