Education
Education at North York General Hospital encompasses everyone: students, staff, physicians and volunteers. We are one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals. As the majority of hospital care in Canada is provided in community hospitals, North York General is uniquely positioned to teach new and better ways to meet the growing needs of our communities.

NYGH partners with approximately 36 different academic institutions, including the University of Toronto, to prepare future physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to work in interprofessional teams, providing essential care in a community hospital setting. Over 300 North York General physicians have faculty appointments at the University of Toronto.

The Centre for Education at NYGH advances health professional education by supporting and enhancing the student and teacher experience and fostering education scholarship among students, staff and physicians. The centre engages in, and fosters, partnerships within and outside the hospital. It provides leadership in education through collaboration. Visit our Centre for Education.

Research and innovation
More than ever, advances to provide patients with timely, safe, and efficient care are needed to ensure the sustainability of our health care system. This unmet need is an opportunity for North York General Hospital to become a “living lab” to study and improve the processes for delivering care.

There is a vibrant research community at NYGH. Our strategy for research and innovation is built around our research chairs who have the expertise and mandate to lead a concerted investigation in key areas of health care delivery.

The Office of Research and Innovation supports people eager to conduct projects that will contribute to improvements in the delivery of health care. The team attempts to help investigators meet potential collaborators, obtain funding for projects and, overall, make it easier to do research. The Research Ethics Board at NYGH ensures that research is designed and conducted with the utmost regard for the people who choose to participate in research studies.
