ed has landed at NYGH!

ed, our scholarly owl, provides access to funds for all regular full-time and regular part-time staff and active physicians.
The wait is over — ed has landed at North York General Hospital bringing with him a world of new opportunities.

ed is our new education development funding portal providing access to education funds for NYGH regular full-time and part-time staff and active physicians.

ed provides access to scholarship awards (support for participation in Master's, doctoral, and other longitudinal programs), professional development funds (support attendance for conferences, courses and workshops), and knowledge dissemination funds (support for presentations at conferences or other venues). Once applications are completed and submitted, they are then adjudicated by a hospital-wide committee three times a year.

“At North York General Hospital, one of our key strategic pillars is to advance care through teaching and learning,” says Dr. Rick Penciner, Director of Medical Education. “One way we can achieve this is through ed, a tool that facilitates access to funds to support lifelong learning so our people can continually enhance their knowledge and skills.”

With ed providing access to funds for all regular full-time and regular part-time staff and active physicians, it will allow many in the organization to benefit.

“Our priority is to give as many people throughout the hospital the chance to explore continuing education,” says Dawne Barbieri, Director of Interprofessional Practice, Research and Education. “We know that a culture of learning is one that supports our vision of excellence in patient-centred care.”

This replaces the current process staff use in applying for education funds and grants such as the named nursing grants (Gerstein, Wiseman, and other nursing funds), and the TD fund.

“We encourage as many individuals, managers and directors to apply,” says Jamie Campbell, Director of Organizational Development. “ed is both a response to feedback from our engagement surveys and part of our continuing commitment to cultivating the best people and culture at North York General.”
