Dunbar Russel was appointed Chair of the North York General Hospital Board of Governors at the June 21, 2010, Annual General Meeting.

Mr. Russel was first appointed to the Board of Governors in June 2003. He was elected Secretary in 2007 and Vice Chair & Secretary in 2009. Over the past 7 years, he has chaired key committees of the Board including the Quality and the Governance Committees.

Mr. Russel has more than 40 years of business experience, gained mainly in Canada’s financial services industry. He worked as a senior executive at MONY Life Insurance Company of Canada, Ontario Blue Cross, TD Life Group, and President’s Choice Financial, a subsidiary of Loblaw. He has recently retired from the Royal Conservatory of Music, where he was the Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Russel has served on numerous Boards of Directors. He currently serves on the Accerta Claim Servicorp Inc. Board as Chair, and is also on the Board of Fiduciary Trust.

Over the years Mr. Russel has volunteered at a number of community organizations including Big Brothers of Metropolitan Toronto, the North Toronto Hockey Association and his church. At present, in addition to his role with NYGH, he serves as a trustee of the Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto, where he chairs the Audit Committee.

Mr. Russel has a Bachelor of Science Degree from McGill University and a Master's in Business Administration from the Ivey School of Business. He earned the CFA designation in 1985. He received the professional ICD.D designation in 2006 from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Mr. Russel is married to Sandra and has three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, relaxing at the cottage and playing golf and tennis.
