Dr. Adrian Brown Appointed Director of Distributed Medical Education

Dr. Adrian Brown was recently appointed as the Director of Distributed Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto for a three-year term effective July 1, 2006. Dr. Brown is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist at North York General Hospital.

This new position, reporting jointly to the Vice-Deans of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education, has been created to facilitate communication between the University of Toronto's community partners and the Medical School and promote the vision for distributed medical education at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine.

As Director, Dr. Brown will have general overall responsibility for the coordination and support of activities related to the delivery of medical education in the University of Toronto's community affiliated partner organizations.


Bonnie Adamson Elected Chair of Canadian College of Health Service Executives

Bonnie Adamson, President & CEO of North York General Hospital, was elected Chair of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE) for a two-year term at its Annual General Meeting, June 11, 2006..  

Founded in 1970, the Canadian College of Health Service Executives is a national, non-profit, professional association dedicated to developing, promoting, advancing and recognizing excellence in health leadership. CCHSE's membership encompasses 3,000 individual and 70 corporate members, working in all health sectors across the country. CCHSE offers a wide range of services including a competency-based certification program, a forum for the exchange of information and best practices, a career network, and an extensive national program of professional development resources and opportunities.

CCHSE also publishes the only peer-reviewed journal that covers issues related to advances in health services management, theory and practice in a Canadian context. The organization's contributions to the health system and, ultimately to the health of Canadians, is through the leadership excellence of its members.

Mrs. Adamson has been a Board member of CCHSE since 2001 and Vice-Chair, 2005 to 2006.

College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Honours Dedication and Leadership of Dr. Donna McRitchie

On June 16, 2006, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) presented Dr. Donna McRitchie with a Council Award for her dedication to the practice of medicine. Dr. McRitchie is a General Surgeon at North York General Hospital and Medical Director, Critical Care.

The prestigious Council Award honours outstanding physicians who have demonstrated excellence and come closest to meeting society's vision of an "ideal" physician. Dr. McRitchie was recognized, in particular, for the lead role she played in the management of critically ill patients at NYGH during SARS.

University of Toronto Awards Recognize Hospital's Teaching Excellence

Six members of North York General Hospital's teaching faculty and a Family Medicine resident have received teaching awards from the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. The annual awards were formally presented at the Walter Rosser Academic Day on Friday, March 31, 2006.
