On June 2, 2008, 136 golfers gathered under a brilliant sky at the prestigious Donalda Club to participate in one of the Hospital's largest fundraising events -- the 18th Annual North York Masters Golf Tournament.
The tournament, hosted by John Derringer from Classic Q107 and co-chaired by Jennifer Bronsema and Tim Kastelic, was a tremendous success, raising a tournament record amount of over $265,000 for cancer and palliative care services at North York General Hospital.
This amazing achievement is due to the energy and talent of our hard-working planning committee and the support of long time and loyal supporters; our major sponsors.
The day's highlights included:
- A casual buffet lunch on the patio that offered a place where teams could tee-up and socialize;
- Each golfer was given a leather messenger bag provided by Roots Canada, embroidered with the Masters logo;
- Contests including Beat the Pro, Longest Drive, Closest to the National Post Box, Closest to the Line, Closet to the Hole, and three Hole-in-One contests for the chance to win a 2 year lease on a new GM vehicle;
- On-course complimentary ice cream truck;
- Two fully stocked refreshment carts offering snacks and beverages all day long;
- After a great day of golfing, everyone gathered on the terrace for a Cocktail Reception. The "York New Jazz Trio" entertained guests as they sipped refreshments, and relaxed before a gourmet dinner with colleagues.
- Silent, live and online auctions with amazing live auction items such as, Vespa Canada Scooter, 2 Hour Air Canada Flight Simulator Experience, Four lower bowl tickets including first class train travel to and from Ottawa for a 2008 Ottawa Senators game, an American Outdoor Grill made of heavy duty stainless steel;
- First place team won Kona Fire Mountain Bikes with accessory kit valued at over $650.00, second place team won Cuisinart Stainless Steel Espresso Machines and third place team won 8" PanDigital Frames.
The 2008 Masters ended on a high note with tons of enthusiasm and excitement with plans for a bigger and even better 2009 tournament set for June 1, 2009.
