NORTH YORK KICKS UP ITS HEELS - RAISING $300,000 FOR NORTH YORK GENERAL HOSPITAL! On May 14th 2005, over 650 people gathered to launch fundraising efforts supporting the redevelopment of North York General Hospital's Interventional Radiology Suite. The hospital's bi-annual Kick Up Your Heels Gala offered guests an incredible evening of dining, entertainment and revelry. The Gala, which was hosted by North York General Hospital Foundation and generously presented by RBC Financial Group, was held at the Liberty Grand Hotel. "When it comes to quickly and accurately diagnosing patients' often-complex medical conditions, a picture truly is worth a thousand words," said Andy Scace, Chair - North York General Hospital Foundation Board of Governors. "Medical Imaging is a vital diagnostic tool at our community teaching hospital - this redevelopment will help to enhance our work in interventional radiology for patients across north Toronto and southern Ontario." The evening featured a cocktail reception and a sumptuous dinner, followed by a night of entertainment, mixing and mingling with live music provided by Slice of Life, a band in which two of North York General Hospital's talented physicians, Dr. Tim Rutledge and Dr. David White, play. "The Liberty Grand was the perfect venue in which to offer our Gala Patrons the ultimate culinary, hospitality and entertainment experience," said Wanda Ho-Pladsen, Chair - 2005 Kick Up Your Heels Gala. "With the grandeur and opulence of their exquisite ballroom, a spectacular lakefront view, superb food and outstanding entertainment, our patrons had a fantastic time - and they helped us raise over $300,000 for the Interventional Radiology Suite redevelopment at our hospital." North York General Hospital acknowledges the Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long Term Care, for his support of this project. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is providing a capital grant of up to $1,554,231. Complementing this funding, North York General Hospital Foundation is seeking to raise $4.1 million dollars for the complete redevelopment of the Interventional Radiology Suite within North York General Hospital. The redevelopment will begin on the first floor of the hospital's Leslie Street site, adjacent to one of Toronto's busiest emergency programs, the Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Emergency.
