BMO Financial Group Breast Diagnostic Centre

According to Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women in Ontario. There is no way to prevent breast cancer yet, but if breast cancer is found early, when it is very small, there is a good chance it can be cured.

Since 1997, the BMO Financial Group Breast Diagnostic Centre (BDC) has provided comprehensive services for women with a potential diagnosis of breast cancer, as identified by a clinical examination and/or medical imaging abnormalities.

Women with suspicious breast anomalies are assessed by a multidisciplinary team of staff with expertise in breast cancer. This team consists of physicians, nurses, Medical Imaging staff, Laboratory Medicine staff, administrative support and volunteers.

Early Diagnosis
The BDC provides women with early diagnosis, supported by state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment to allow women to make informed decisions about treatment options. Approximately 1,300 new patients are seen in the centre each year.

The BDC works closely with the Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer Clinic to provide counseling and testing for women at high risk for developing an inherited form of breast cancer.

The patient education centre provides a comfortable environment for patients and family to increase their knowledge around new diagnosis and treatment options. The BDC also support the diversity of the North York community by providing literature in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and other languages.

Breast screening is available through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) at the Branson Site. This is a program by Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) that provides top quality breast screening services for women 50 years of age or older.
