Emergency & Urgent Care

Two levels of expert emergency care at two hospital sites to meet the community's needs.

One of the busiest Emergency departments in Canada.

A leading force in Emergency Medicine — important teaching role and annual conference attracting over 700 professionals.

The injuries and illnesses that bring people to us cover the spectrum from minor to life-threatening. North York General Hospital provides two levels of emergency care at two hospital sites tailored to meet the needs of the population we serve.

The Charlotte & Lewis Steinberg Emergency, at our General Site, 4001 Leslie St., Toronto (Sheppard Avenue East & Leslie Street )
is a full service emergency — one of the busiest in Canada. Spacious and technically advanced, it is the hospital's "front door" — most of our patients who are admitted into the hospital come in through the Emergency.

The Urgent Care Centre at our Branson Site, 555 Finch Ave. W., Toronto (Bathurst Street. & Finch Avenue) is designed specifically to manage any urgent illness or injury that is not life threatening (broken bones, cuts,) quickly and efficiently. The Urgent Care Centre is committed to short wait times.

Our Emergency Services Program delivers high quality care and treatment to over 100,000 patients and their families annually.

The department is staffed by a combination of full-time emergency physicians and family physicians with a special interest in emergency medicine, along with nurses and other health care professionals with expertise in acute care.

The team-oriented physicians and staff in our Emergency Services Program are trained to provide critically ill adults and children with expert care. You can rely on us to meet your needs.
