Addiction Program

The Addiction Program, located at the Branson Site, provides service to patients who have problems with alcohol, street or prescription drugs, or addictive behaviours such as compulsive gambling ,and computer use

Individuals who are stable in methadone maintenance programs under supervision of a methadone physician are welcome into any part of the Addiction Program.

NEW — Addiction Nurse Consultant
At North York General Hospital's General Site (Leslie St.), a  Registered Nurse with expertise in addiction provides consultation, assessment and referral for patients identified by staff in the medical, psychiatric, surgical, obstetric, family practice, Family Health Team and emergency department..

Adult Program
Core Day Program

This is a 10-week abstinence-based outpatient program for individuals who choose total abstinence from all mood-altering substances as their goal. It includes intake assessment, group therapy with interpersonal group psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural based relapse prevention, goal setting, stress management, addiction education. Individual therapy is offered as needed.

Continuing care (aftercare) is offered once a week to those who complete this program.

Harm Reduction/Contemplative Day Program

This open-ended program addresses the needs of individuals whose goals are  to cut down or taper their use of substances or addictive behaviours. Individuals who take part in this outpatient program may choose to meet once or twice per week.

Chemical Withdrawal Management Program (Medical Day Detox)

Outpatient chemical withdrawal medical management supervised by a physician and nurses is offered only to patients entering any of our treatment programs. Specific criteria must be met prior to treatment.

Transitional Aged Youth Substance Use Program

This program offers specialized, outpatient counselling to youth and young adults (ages 16-24) who are concerned about the impact of substance use in their life. Assessment, counselling and/or referral to appropriate services are available for individuals and their families.

Treatment options are flexible and include goals of both harm reduction and abstinence. Young people can achieve their treatment goals through a variety of treatment modalities including individual counselling, family/parenting support and psycho-educational and therapeutic groups.

Group Educational Program for Family Members

This program offered by the Transitional Age Youth Program is available at no cost to family members of adolescents and young adults with substance use issues. Registration is required. Please contact Erika Rukin at (416) 635-2582 or Michelle Lavergne at (416) 635-2581 to register.

Specialized Programs

Health Professional Recovery Program

This program is offered to health professionals including  physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and veterinarians  to address both personal and professional needs in recovery.

Smoking Cessation Reduction

Treatment is available  in each part of the Addiction Program. The  patient’s readiness for change, and individual goal is considered.
