North York General Hospital is one of the largest centres in the province
doing joint implants. This year, we are projecting over 1,000 joint
implants will be done at the hospital. Most of our patients return home
within 4-5 days or are transferred to rehabilitation facilities, if
needed.
As part of the provincial Wait Time Strategy, the hospital has
received funding to increase our volume of joint implants by 65%. Our
ability to do more of this surgery means significantly shortened wait
times for patients.
As a member of the Total Joint Network, we collaborate with over 25
other network partners across the GTA to follow best practices and ensure
patients receive the best care.
The Orthopaedic Service also has a major focus in sports injuries and
the treatment
of fractures referred from our busy Emergency department. In addition,
the Orthopaedic Service provides corrective surgery for foot deformities.
In 2006, two outstanding facilities opened: the new Gulshan
& Pyarali G. Nanji Orthopaedic and Plastics Centre
as well as the Total Joint
Assessment Centre.
We also work in partnership with area Community Care Access Centres
(CCAC) and St. John's Rehab Hospital for our patients who require post
operative rehabilitation.
