Volunteer
Student Program

There are two ways to become a Student Volunteer:
All students must be15 years of age or older and enrolled in high school or university.


1. Summer Student Program

Firm ONE-month commitment, July or August weekdays. (Monday to Friday)
Commitment of 3 hours shift five days per week
Minimum of 60 hours to successfully complete the program.
OR
Firm TWO-month commitment, July AND August
Commitment of 3-4 hours per shift two days per week
Minimum 60 hours to successfully complete the program.
OR
Firm TWO-month commitment, July AND August (Saturdays and Sundays)
Commitment of 3-4 hours per shift weekends
Minimum 60 hours to successfully complete the program.

2. School Year Student Volunteer Program

• Firm weekly commitment September to June
• 3 hour shift
• Weekday evenings or weekend available
• Minimum 75 hours to successfully complete the program

How to Apply

1. Complete and submit an application package.
The application package includes:
Application form
Reference Forms (two completed references are required)
• Updated Resume
• Incomplete packages will not be considered

2. If you were interviewed and offered a placement in our program, you must:
• Complete a mandatory immunization protocol (including a two-step TB test)
• Attend a volunteer orientation session
• Sign hospital privacy and code of conduct documents
• Attend additional unit/area training and orientation

Please note all applications are reviewed but, due to the volume of applications we receive; only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Application packages will be kept on file for ONE year. If you have applied for the Summer Program and were not contacted for an interview, you may be contacted for the School Year Program.

Co-Operative Education Program

North York General Hospital believes in mentoring tomorrow's health care professionals today. We understand that, as a student, you have decisions to make about your future and what career path to choose.

North York General Hospital is pleased to offer Co-operative Education Placements to secondary education students from the Toronto District School Board, York District School Board and the Toronto Catholic School Board. Interested high school students should contact their Co-operative Education Teacher responsible for this program for further information.

Volunteer Services is very pleased to works with the school boards to arrange these exciting opportunities for students in our community. Students are accepted during the fall and winter semesters.
