President and CEO
Karyn's tenure at North York General Hospital began in 1981 when she joined the organization as a staff nurse. Since that time, Karyn has held a number of clinical leadership positions, including clinical educator, manager, unit administrator and program director.
In 2010, Karyn joined North York General's Senior Leadership Team as Vice President, Clinical Programs, Quality and Risk and Chief Nursing Executive and became a member of the Board of Governors. As Vice President, she was responsible for several programs and services including medicine, critical care, elder care, emergency services, surgical services, cancer care and ambulatory services, mental health, quality and risk management, interprofessional practice and research and education. She assumed previously the role of interim President and CEO from March to November 2018.
She has a Master's degree in Health Studies from Athabasca University, and holds an Adjunct Clinical appointment at Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, at the University of Toronto. She is also a fully qualified and active surveyor at Accreditation Canada.
Karyn is a passionate advocate for patient safety, quality and the patient and family experience and has a collaborative and consultative style with strong coaching, mentoring and leadership skills. She has led numerous initiatives to improve wait times, wound management, patient flow, quality oversight and risk management at NYGH, within the Central LHIN and across the province.
