Surgery for Breast Cancer

Treatment for breast cancer often involves surgery. Surgical options may include lumpectomy, partial mastectomy or mastectomy. The timing of surgery and consideration for breast reconstruction will depend on your particular situation. Your surgeon will speak with you to find the best option for you.

Most breast surgeries are performed as outpatient procedures (day surgery). There may be circumstances where you need to stay in the hospital before or after surgery.

Preparing for surgery

You may be asked to attend the Pre-Op Assessment Clinic (Pre-Admit Clinic). Please be sure to bring all of your medications to this visit, including vitamins, minerals or naturopathic remedies .

  • Day Surgery: You will register at the day surgery registration on the first floor of the hospital's General Site.
