Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
This is a breathing test for diagnosing the cause of unexplained respiratory symptoms and monitoring patients with known respiratory disease. If your physician is wondering if you have Asthma, you may also need to do a Methacholine Challenge Test. This will be scheduled AFTER a full pulmonary function test.
What is a Methacholine Challenge test? (~1-hour duration). This is a breathing test that measures airway sensitivity. During the test, you will breathe in increasing levels of Methacholine which helps us assess if you have Asthma; and its severity. This test is always done AFTER a full PFT study is done, and NEVER on the same day.
