Celebrating 40 Years of Seniors’ Health Centre
2025 marks 40 years of exceptional care at Seniors’ Health Centre (SHC). Owned and operated by North York General (NYG), SHC first opened its doors in 1985 as a two-floor, 60-bed long-term care home. What a remarkable journey it has been:
1985: Seniors’ Health Centre opens at 2 Buchan Crt.
1987: 60 beds are added
1993: 44 additional beds are introduced
1999: Updates to the home are made to meet new long-term care guidelines; SHC’s 4th floor opens, increasing capacity to 192 beds
2006: Convalescent beds are added to the 3rd floor
2022: Beds converted into LTC beds; four-bed rooms are restructured to enhance infection control practices
Through every challenge and change, SHC’s unwavering dedication to people-centred care remains front and centre. We will celebrate this important milestone on Friday, November 28 at SHC where we’ll hear from members of our Senior Leadership Team and congratulate team members, including two staff who have been at SHC since its opening!
As we reflect SHC’s history, we also look forward to NYG’s new LTC development. Learn more about how we plan to meet the needs of our growing seniors’ population.
Thank you for your commitment to residents and families, and our communities over the past four decades.
