For the Seventh Year, North York General named Canada’s Number One Community Academic Hospital by Newsweek Magazine

North York General Hospital (NYGH) has been named Canada’s top-ranking community academic hospital by Newsweek Magazine. This ranking is based on an extensive evaluation of quality, safety and patient experience data and a survey of hospitals and health professionals around the world.

Serving a growing population of 500,000, with the highest percentage of seniors in Toronto, NYGH is innovating and growing to meet the diverse needs of its communities. As part of the largest expansion in the hospital’s 56-year history, a new Long-Term Care (LTC) Development and New Patient Care Tower will be built in the coming years, delivering world-class health services for generations to come.

The award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., a world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.  The World’s Best Hospitals 2024 ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries, including: USA, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, Canada, India, Australia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Austria, Thailand, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Israel, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Taiwan, Chile and Malaysia. The countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living/life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.

North York General Hospital is a top-ranked academic community hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto that provides high-quality acute, ambulatory, and long-term care to approximately half a million people across seven sites in Toronto.
