NYG Releases Year in Review for Environmental Sustainability

October 17, 2025

We are proud to share our second Year In Review for environmental sustainability at North York General.

Inside you will learn more about the measures NYG has taken over the past year to green our practices and reduce our environmental footprint.  Key highlights include:

  • Reducing our carbon emissions through energy retrofit projects by an amount equivalent to taking more than 180 gas-powered vehicles off the road for a whole year.
  • Becoming the first hospital in Canada to receive the Best Workplaces for Commuters designation in recognition for our green commute program.
  • Reducing daily paper use in our Outpatient Pharmacy by 75% with the Kroll Paperless Workflow, saving over 185,000 sheets of paper a year—the height of a 6-storey building in paper!
  • Launching a new e-learning module to make environmental sustainability education available to all staff.

Contributing to a healthier planet is part of the Sustainability enabler under our Strategic Plan 2025-2035, World-Class Care, 24/7 and is a responsibility we will continue to champion in years to come.

Thank you to everyone across NYG and in our community for helping to make NYGreen and building a greener today for a healthier tomorrow.
