Last summer North York General Hospital announced an elevator modernization project with a scheduled completion of spring 2018. The modernization of the elevators will enhance elevator reliability and decrease future downtime for maintenance.
A series of short-term and long-term elevator service disruptions to individual elevator cars is anticipated to be back in service in the spring. Currently, there are two central elevator cars down long term for a full modernization - one passenger elevator and one service elevator. We encourage patients and visitors as well as our staff, physicians and volunteers to use the south lobby elevators for faster service or take the stairs.
As always, the priority is to provide minimal interruption to patient flow, service delivery and to improve the overall patient and family experience.
NYGH recognizes the inconvenience associated with waiting for the elevators and we thank you for your patience during this development as we continue to enhance the safety and performance of the elevators.
