Get to know our new President and CEO

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Joshua Tepper as North York General Hospital's new President and CEO. Dr. Tepper started at NYGH on November 5.

    1. What was your first job?

      Camp Counsellor at a day camp in Ottawa.

      2. Favourite way to spend a weekend?

      With my kids doing something outside, like walking along the beaches or playing at the park.

      3. Career highlight you're most proud of?

      Being a doctor who has focused on trying to help people with problems accessing care, such as those who are homeless or new immigrants and refugees. I also feel very fortunate to be both a doctor caring for patients and in leadership roles. 

      4. Latest book you read?

      Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In. I read it when it first came out but decided to reread it this summer. I know there are criticisms of the book but many of the messages and ideas are very important.

      5. What do you consider the most important character trait in others?

      I don't think we should be judged by only one aspect of our character. However, one trait I value is authenticity -- people being honest and true to their values. 

      6. One thing you can't live without?

      My family.

      7. Best piece of advice you've ever received?

      "The world is not designed for people to find their passion, so if you are lucky enough to stumble upon it, don't let it go." Kristen Tiles, my Art History Teacher in university., in helping me decide to turn away from law school to apply to medical school.
