To achieve North York General Hospital's mission of providing exceptional health care to our diverse communities, we must assess how, why and where we provide the services we do and adapt to our dynamic health care environment. That is why, on March 1, 2017, we announced that we would be transitioning programs and services out of the Branson Ambulatory Care Centre and into more strategic locations in the community after our lease expires in March 2019.
Over the past year, we have been busy exploring new spaces for the remaining Branson Ambulatory Care Centre programs. Our search has taken into account valuable feedback gleaned from surveys, interviews and discussions with our patients, community, staff, physicians as well as a telephone town hall that reached 20,000 randomly selected residents. After careful planning and consideration, we are now delighted to announce two new locations for our Branson Ambulatory Care programs and services.
The first location will house outpatient services comprising Adult Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Diabetes Education Centre, the Centre for Complex Diabetes Care, Ontario Breast Screening Program and the Bone Mineral Densitometry program. Situated at 2 Champagne Drive, this location supports patient populations that often require repeat visits. It is also well within a three kilometre radius of the Branson Ambulatory Care Centre, a preference indicated by the Westminster-Branson community through our extensive engagement.
The second location will house primarily minor procedure services comprising the regional eye surgery centre, diagnostic cystoscopy services, the Gale and Graham Wright Prostate Centre, the urology outpatient program and Specialized Geriatric Services (which currently resides at Seniors' Health Centre). Situated at 243 Consumers Road, this location will be supported with equipment sterilization services that will occur at the General site, only 3.5 kilometres away. For our regional program, the location is central for patients throughout the Central LHIN.
Both locations are accessible by public transit, will be newly built spaces and designed specifically to the needs of the programs. Spaces will be fresh, bright and accessible for all of our patients, visitors and staff.
We will strive to transition to these locations by April 2019; however, we acknowledge that there may be minor delays out of our control. It's important to note that the transition of the Specialized Geriatric Services is required for the redevelopment of Seniors' Health Centre, but the timing of this transition is more flexible.
The remaining Branson programs and services — minor surgical procedures and some breast diagnostic services — will move to the General site.
