TORONTO (SEPTEMBER 5, 2019) – Rally in the Ravine, now in its second year, is an opportunity for past and present patients, their families and the North York community to come together to celebrate and support North York General Hospital.

The signature fundraising event, presented by international condo developer Concord, takes place the morning of Saturday, September 28 at the North York General Hospital Campus, located at 4001 Leslie St. Toronto. Rally in the Ravine has something for all ages and fitness levels, including a chip-timed 5K run or walk along the scenic Betty Sutherland Trail, a comfortably-paced 1K stroll around the hospital’s Healing Garden or the fun-filled Kids’ Mini Rally adventure course designed for children eight and under.

Guests will enjoy an exciting opening ceremony, hosted by Jennifer Valentyne of Global News Morning Toronto. There will be live entertainment, great food, giveaways and activities for all ages in the Athletes’ Village.

“We are so grateful for everyone who has registered for Rally in the Ravine and raised funds for our community hospital,” says Terry Pursell, President and CEO of North York General Foundation. “Your support allows us to continue to provide world-class care right in your own backyard.”

Over 500 supporters came out for the inaugural Rally in the Ravine in 2018. Individuals, teams and corporate partners together raised $178,000. Building on that success, North York General Foundation has increased its fundraising goal to $250,000 in support of:

  • Redeveloping the paediatric care space

Centralizing all paediatric services into one space (Steinberg Family Paediatric Centre) to provide the best possible care to young patients and their families, close to home

• Highest priority needs

Funding new and replacement equipment, technology advancements, capital improvements and other important upgrades throughout the hospital.

• Orthopaedic care

Funding urgently needed advanced equipment for improved care at the hospital’s Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Orthopaedic Centre.

This year, former North York Councillor, Betty Sutherland, who was the local representative for this area, will be honoured as she celebrates her 90th birthday. As Chair of the Metro Toronto Parks Committee, Mrs. Sutherland was instrumental in developing the regional parks trail system. The Betty Sutherland Trail was named in her honour in 1988.

“Having raised my family in this community, I have been a supporter of North York General Hospital from fundraising for its original construction to today,” says Betty Sutherland. “We need to invest in community hospitals such as North York General to continue to have local access to the best care. I love the fact that the Betty Sutherland Trail is being used to support fundraising for North York General Hospital.”
