Phillips House redevelopment update

The Phillips House Redevelopment Project allows North York General Hospital to fully live out its core value of putting patients first in everything we do by creating a therapeutic environment tailored to meet the mental health needs of our patients and their families. As a fully donor funded project, North York General Foundation is committing philanthropic investmentto transform this facility and re-imagine how outpatient children and family mental health care is provided.

This summer, we began necessary construction work to preserve the main structure of the heritage building. As such, half of the Phillips House parking lot was hoarded off to make room for construction crews and vehicles. It is anticipated that this preliminary site work will continue until September 2017. We will then begin demolition of an addition to the building, which will require a greater hoarded area for construction work for both safety and operational reasons. This demolition, as well as other major construction, is anticipated to continue through summer 2018.

As always, our priority is to minimize impact to our patients and families as well as our staff, physicians and volunteers. We recognize that construction work has resulted in reduced parking availability and we are working on a broader strategy to try and address this situation in advance of the demolition in the fall.

We understand that parking lots at the Seniors' Health Centre (SHC) and Phillips House are often used as off street parking by unauthorized users. We are currently asking these vehicle owners to stop using our parking lots and we will begin ticketing vehicles without proper identification.

We will continue to update our website as more information becomes available.
