COVID Testing

If you are experiencing the following symptoms do not come to the assessment centre.
Please call 911 or proceed to the nearest Emergency Department: 

- Difficulty breathing
- New disorientation, confusion, or decrease in level of consciousness
- Fever lasting over 4 days
- Chest pain/pressure 

North York General Hospital offers testing by appointment only at our Branson (Finch) site from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday ad Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We also offer COVID-19 testing at Parkway Forest Community Centre (55 Forest Manor Rd.) every Saturday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. No appointment needed. More information on testing is coming soon!

Please note the Assessment Centre DOES NOT administer tests for upcoming travel/international travel.


Book an appointment for a COVID-19 test ONLY if you:

  • Testing for those who are asymptomatic (without symptoms) may take place if individuals are:
  • Have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus (call Toronto Public Health 416-338-7600 to better understand if your exposure is considered “close contact”) 
  • Temporary foreign workers (for international travel purposes)
  • Have received notification through the COVID Alert app
  • Those who identify as Indigenous
  • Live or work in a setting that has a COVID-19 outbreak, as identified and informed by the local public health unit
  • Individuals and one caregiver with written approval for out-of-country medical services from OHIP
  •   Are a resident, visiting a resident or work in an at-risk setting, such as a long-term care home, homeless shelter or other congregate setting 
  • Those travelling for work into remote/isolated First Nation and Indigenous communities 
  • Are an NYGH patient and require a test for surgery

Testing in pharmacies is now available to those not showing symptoms and who are a resident or working in an at-risk setting, such as a long-term care home, homeless shelter or other congregate setting. See the full list of participating pharmacies.

*Due to high volumes, COVID-19 test results may take up to four days to become available but are usually available earlier. We are not able to expedite test results. Thank you for your patience.
