Orthopaedic Surgery

North York General Hospital is one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals and the largest centre in the Central LHIN performing joint implants. We project over 1,000 joint implants will be done at the hospital this year. Our surgical program is dedicated to providing excellent, innovative and evidence-based care to all our patients and their families. Our team consists of highly qualified surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, allied health and support staff. We value partnering with our patients and families to provide an exceptional care experience and to support and enable the best recovery after surgery. Most of our patients return home within one–two days after surgery with outpatient physiotherapy arranged.

As a member of the Total Joint Network and GTA Rehab Network, we collaborate with over 25 other network partners across the GTA to follow best practices and ensure patients receive the best care. The orthopaedic services include a major focus on sports injuries and the treatment of fractures referred from our busy emergency department. In addition, we provide corrective surgery for foot deformities.

Several outstanding facilities are located at North York General, the Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Orthopaedic and Plastics Centre, the Total Joint Assessment Centre, Preoperative Assessment Clinic and outpatient hip/nee physiotherapy.

We are a major centre for:

  • Hip and knee joint replacement surgery
  • Hip fractures
  • Arthroscopies: shoulder replacements, foot and ankle surgeries
