Paediatric Unit Reopens

Last month, we experienced a serious increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 admitted to Ontario hospitals. On April 12, GTA hospitals, including North York General Hospital (NYGH), began to transfer paediatric patients requiring an inpatient stay to SickKids as a temporary measure while COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations were brought under control.

With COVID-19 cases gradually falling in Ontario, the Ministry of Health has approved NYGH and other hospitals to fully reopen their paediatric units.  Starting on Friday, May 21 NYGH will fully reopen our Paediatric Unit on 4 North and welcome back young patients and their families

We were very pleased to have been able to continue to care for paediatric patients with eating disorders, some mental health needs and for newborns requiring admission for jaundice over the past month.  Now, we are able to offer all of our paediatric inpatient services to our community once again.

We thank you for your understanding during that time as we worked to care for all patients.
