Labour kit
- 2 pillows with colourful pillow cases
- 1 adult blanket
- 1 pair of socks and 1 pair of slippers
- Comb, brush, hair pins, hair ties
- Labour log, pen and notebook
- Lip balm, gum, suckers
- Toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash
- Comfortable clothing to wear in labour, 2 t-shirts (large), stretch pants and robe
- Books, cards, magazines
- Snack for support person during labour
- Watch/stopwatch to time contractions
- Portable music device
- Massage cream
- Tissues
- Rolling pin, tennis balls, hot/cold packs for back pain
- Focal point – picture, toy
- Camera
- Cord blood banking kit (if registered in program)
Medication reconciliation
Bring a list of the medications that you take including the dosage and how often you take the medications. Remember to include all herbal and over-the-counter medications.
Cellular phone
May be used on both Labour and Delviery and Postpartum units.

Postpartum kit
Leave your suitcase in your car and bring it to the Postpartum Unit after the baby’s birth.
Required:
- Pen and paper
- A watch
- 3-4 nightgowns with front closure for breastfeeding
- Slippers or other appropriate footwear
- 6-8 pairs of cotton underwear (thongs are not suitable)
- 1-2 bras (nursing bras if you’re planning on breastfeeding
- 1 large package of heavy flow feminine pads
- Personal toiletry items
- Breast pads and nipple cream
- 1 large refillable water bottle
- 3-4 sleepers for the baby
- 1 package of newborn diapers
- 1 package of baby wipes
- A box or several soft purse-size packets of facial tissue
- Clothing for you and the baby to wear home
- please bring clothing appropriate for the time of year
- no “knitted” mittens or booties
- Safety approved rear-facing car seat
- Vaseline in a tube
- Baby soap
Please do not wear or bring expensive jewellery to the hospital. Please leave electrical appliances at home.
