Centre for Education

The Centre for Education at North York General Hospital advances health professional education by supporting and enhancing the student and teacher experience and fostering education scholarship among students, staff and physicians. The centre engages in, and fosters, partnerships within and outside the hospital. We provide leadership in education through collaboration.

Facts & Figures

  • NYGH teaches, mentors, trains and supervises health professional learners of the future including learners from 40 different professions and disciplines
  • Over 1500 learners taught annually including over 700 medical students and residents; over 600 nursing students
  • NYGH is affiliated with over 50 academic partners, the largest one being University of Toronto
  • NYGH has one of the largest cohorts of medical learners of any community academic hospital in Canada
  • Almost all of the NYGH Physicians (over 400) have Faculty Appointments at University of Toronto (with 30% at a rank of Assistant Professor or higher)
  • 9/10 learners at NYGH annually would recommend (or highly recommend) a placement at NYGH to a fellow student
    • Many of our learners continue to work at NYGH once they complete their training; and 86% of our learners who were surveyed would choose to work at NYGH in the future if the opportunity arose
