Why Choose Us?
From pre-conception to after birth care, our caring and experienced team is committed to supporting you on every step of your pregnancy journey.
We have extensive experience, advanced training and education to support all types of pregnancies. NYGH is able to provide specialized care to the majority of patiensts and newborns. Many patients from across the Greater Toronto Area are referred to NYGH for high-risk pregnancy care and access to specialized services, including post-partum and late loss support groups.
Our Paediatrics Program also provides a wide range of medical and mental health services to meet the complex needs of young patients from newborns to teens. Our priority is to ensure every child, teen and their family receives evidence-based high quality care, in a safe and comfortable environment. We also work closely with our tertiary partners (SickKids, Sinai Health System and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre) and other local community hospitals.
Whether receiving maternal, newborn or paediatric care, our teams work closely with you, your primary care provider, and any other specialists involved in your care to provide exceptional care for you, baby and family.
North York General (NYGH) is committed to advancing maternal and newborn health care. We apply the latest research and evidence-based best practices to support low and high-risk pregnancies.
Our experts publish regularly in leading academic journals on obstetrical, prenatal and paediatric care. NYGH is also an innovator in prenatal screening, offering one of Ontario’s largest prenatal screening programs. We were one of the first hospitals in the world to offer Integrated Prenatal Screening in the early 2000s, to let parents know during pregnancy the chances of some specificbirth defects and the risk level for potential issues.
We are committed to continuously innovating prenatal testing for patients and families during their pregnancy. As such, we were also one of the first Genetics teams in Canada to introduce enhanced first trimester prenatal screening. Our team offers screening for specific genetics conditions earlier in the pregnancy, so families have more options for further testing, counselling and care planning related to the pregnancy.
As one of Canada’s leading community academic hospitals, North York General Hospital is affiliated with the University of Toronto. We train and teach over 40 different health professions and welcomed over 1,300 learners in 2021-22. With more Family Medicine Faculty than any other University of Toronto site, NYGH remains at the forefront of family medicine education.
