To assist colorectal cancer and hip and knee surgery patients, NYGH uses SeamlessMD, an app patients can install on their desktop computer or mobile device to answer any questions they have before and after surgery. SeamlessMD helps keep patients connected to their healthcare team to help reduce visits to the emergency room and hospital readmissions after surgery.
NYGH was the first hospital in Canada to use a new procedure—transperineal biopsy—to test for prostate cancer. In addition to increasing the number of tissue samples tested, the procedure reduces post-procedure infection rates.
NYGH is also leading the way in surgeries relating to sleep apnea, abdominal wall reconstruction, advanced hand reconstructive surgery and advanced breast reconstruction with flap surgery.
As Canada’s leading community academic hospital, North York General Hospital is affiliated with the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine recognizes NYGH as an excellent teaching resource for gynecology, otolaryngology, head and neck, general surgery and orthopaedics.
