Research Ethics Board

Safety Confidentiality Quality Protect Research Participants

As of September 1, 2022, the NYGH Research Ethics Board (REB) is electronic!

The online submission system called “ARIEL” stands for Advanced Research and Innovation Ethics and Logistics. With the same look and feel as the one used by Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO), ARIEL is cloud-based to streamline all phases of the REB application process – from submission to review, renewal, and closure. It makes processes smoother for researchers who are seeking REB approval and volunteer REB members who ensure that each study meets the highest ethical standards.

Only online submissions through ARIEL are accepted (no email/ paper forms).

The North York General Hospital Research Ethics Board (REB) works with investigators to ensure that all research involving human participants or human materials conducted within and on behalf of North York General meets the current scientific and ethical standards of safety, confidentiality and quality to protect research participants.

The REB adheres to diverse national and international key ethical documents and guidelines such as the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2); the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH): Good Clinical Practices (GCP); and the Personal Health Information and Protection Act (PHIPA) Ontario.

The Federal wide Assurance (FWA) number of NYGH REB is FWA00009323
