Ronnie Ng

Currently enrolled in the University of Toronto and The Michener Institute’s joint Radiological Technology program, Ronnie is well on her way to achieving her goal of being a Radiological Technician. Ronnie shared, “I am learning a lot volunteering at North York General Hospital (NYGH) in the Medical Imaging CT Scan department. My volunteer assignment aligns with my studies and my career goal. The staff are supportive of my learning, and don’t hesitate to explain things when I have questions.”

According to the MI CT administrative team Ronnie is cheerful and consistently provides a warm and friendly experience. She shows initiative and is always willing to help, Ronnie makes our day flow better.

NYGH’s MI Department provides imaging and diagnostic services to meet the needs of in-patients, out-patients and patients in our Emergency Department and clinics. Within MI there are three different volunteer teams supporting General Radiology and Ultrasound, CT Scan and Cardio-Respiratory Services.

One of the key volunteer tasks for the CT Scan team is to help create a professional and welcoming environment for patients and their families. Volunteers help with patient flow before and after appointments and ensure the patient is informed and comfortable. Small gestures like providing a warm blanket, or if permitted a drink of water, are so meaningful to anxious patients.

“When I began volunteering in the Medical Imaging CT Scan department, I was nervous to interact with the patients. I was worried I would do or say something wrong. However, the staff is great. They coached me on how best to engage with patients, what questions I could answer, and what questions I should redirect to them. Now I am very comfortable supporting our patients. I encourage and reassure them throughout the process.”, said Ronnie.

“Volunteers like Ronnie are a great asset to the CT Scan team. They are an important part of the department’s success. They help patients get ready for their scans, making sure they’re comfortable and looked after while they wait.  Our patients and staff greatly appreciate Ronnie’s contributions.”, said Scott Ball, Interim Manager, CT Scan.

Ronnie, thank you for ensuring people come first in everything you do!
