Since North York General Hospital (NYGH) opened its doors in 1968, we have continuously evolved to meet our communities’ changing needs. Today, North York has a large and growing seniors’ population - with the highest percentage of people 65+ in Toronto - and is among the most ethnically and racially diverse places in the City.
North York General is Growing!
We are transforming our facilities and services through the largest expansion in our 50-plus year history, starting with a new, advanced long-term care (LTC) home, steps from our hospital.
A recognized leader in seniors’ health care, NYGH has owned and operated the Seniors’ Health Centre long-term care (LTC) home since 1985. To serve our community and support the exceptional and compassionate care we’re known for, NYGH is building a new and modern LTC home at 4000 Leslie Street.
In April 2022, NYGH, in partnership with the Ontario Government, announced its plans for a transformational infrastructure expansion, including its new LTC home and hospital redevelopment, with a modern New Patient Care Tower at the main hospital site.
These leading-edge facilities will be at the heart of a Campus of Care for North York, offering our communities a full range of interconnected, top-tier hospital and community services, at all life stages.
Home Design and Features - Highlights
NYGH’s new LTC home will be carefully designed to feel like home and promote a sense of community, with engaging activities and amenities for residents from all walks of life and cultures.
As one of the first homes built since the pandemic, it will offer the most advanced safety, infection prevention and control, and quality standards. And because nothing is more important than residents’ comfort and dignity, every person will have their own private bedroom and private bathroom.
The home will focus on wellness and quality of life, offering a variety of seniors-focused health services and amenities for residents as well as older adults in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
